Paul Read is on his way to creating a personal record of sorts. This 40 year old from England is on a mission to complete a round-the-world tour on his bike! On his website, Read says that one of the reasons he decided to set off on this tour was because he’s always wanted to and that the time was right. If he didn’t do it now, he might never. Besides, he’d just completed 10 years with Renault F1, and perhaps that in itself was a milestone that demanded celebration!

Paul’s first stop was France, and since then he has traveled through the European continent, with stops at Italy, Greece, and Turkey, where he is at present. Since he set off on August 30, 2007, Paul has covered a total distance of 4357.07 miles to date!

On his website, Read maintains a diary, in which he keeps his fans and well wishers updated on his journey, describing with great enthusiasm and ample photographs, the sights and sounds he has enjoyed so far.

A traveler at heart, Read has been preparing for this mammoth task for more than 7 years! He’s had to modify his bike to make sure that it can take the long and hard travel, and he has had to plan out his route, complete formalities, take care of the practicalities of living a wandering life with just the bare essentials for many months, make sure that he has packed right, research on the lifestyles and culture of the places he will be visiting, talk to fellow travelers and assimilate information and advice, and most of all prepare himself physically and mentally for the journey.

On this exciting trip, more aptly an experience of a lifetime, Read has only his wanderlust, passion, and determination, to keep him company! An admirable feat indeed. An inspiration for many.

Controversy continues to hound pop star Britney Spears, with her latest brush with the law being a skipped red light. Her sons Sean Preston, 2 years, and Jayden James, 1 year, were in the car with the star, when she allegedly ran the light, instead of waiting a mere minute.

As if that wasn’t enough, paparazzi stills and videos indicate that there is a possibility that she was texting on her mobile as she turned into oncoming traffic. Her court-appointed monitor, Scott M. Gordon, was in the car with her at the time. Ironically, he was scheduled to rule November 26, on a request from her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, to prohibit her from chauffeuring her sons.

No surprise that it was Kaplan, who requested an emergency hearing with regards this latest development. The hearing is scheduled for Friday.

Spears’ supporters are not amused. They do not see this as necessarily irresponsible. The 25 year old star’s attorney, Sorrell Trope, told People magazine, “She was distracted. This was not blatant irresponsible driving on her part.”

Interestingly, court documents released on November 1 show that one of the main reasons Spears lost custody of her sons on October 1, was that she had been driving them around without a valid license.

Meanwhile Spears is also at the center of a controversy regarding her drug tests. Recently published reports state that she came back with one false positive. While her attorney insists that the star cleared every one of the 10 tests, Kaplan maintains that she was only available for 6 of the 14 tests required.

Doctors and nutritionists have for centuries touted the benefits of a diet rich in fiber.

1996 research findings at the Harvard School of Public Health indicate that there is a marked reduction in the risk of heart attack in individuals who have a high intake of fiber. It is no surprise then that oats, with 55 % soluble fiber content, and 45 % insoluble, have become one of the most popular health foods today! Tufts University research shows that a diet rich in oats significantly reduces cholesterol and lowers blood pressure. The soluble fibers in oat reduce bad cholesterol (LDL), without lowering the good cholesterol (HDL). These soluble fibers also slow down starch digestion, thus monitoring the release of sugar into the blood, and therefore enabling effective diabetes management. Moreover, insoluble fiber in oats attacks some bile acids, thus reducing their toxicity, and fighting cancer. These fibers also facilitate healthy bowel movement.

In fact, it isn’t just in fiber content that oats score high. The overall nutrition profile of this health food is most impressive:

- Oats have a high Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, and Vitamin B2 content.
- Oats contain a higher concentration of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, than most whole grains like wheat, barley, corn, or rice!
- They have a low fat content

What better way, then, than to start your day with a bowl of oats.
